Wing venation shows few cross veins and often fewer longitudinal veins. Wings have large areas of membrane without any veins passing through them. The effect is to produce an open and delicate wing surface. Insects typifying this structure include ants, bees, wasps and ants (Hymenoptera) and flies (Diptera). Orders frequently posses several species in which one species has a wing venation with few cross veins, while another species has a wing venation with many cross veins. |
